Daily Tip: Keep Spam Links Out of Your WordPress Comments

This is a really handy tip from CatsWhoCode in their 10 Useful New WordPress Hacks. It removes the autolinking from your WordPress comments. Add it to your theme’s functions.php file:

remove_filter('comment_text', 'make_clickable', 9);

The only downside of this is that legitimate links posted in comments will not be easily clickable. A user will have to copy and paste it into the browser. Take that into consideration. If you’d rather simply moderate your comments, then best not to implement this hack. I’m posting it for those who leave their comments open and unmoderated.
