Daily Tip: BuddyPress Groups Extras Plugin Adds Custom Fields to Group Pages
May 16, 2011
BuddyPress Group Extras is a brand new free tool for expanding BuddyPress group pages. It written by plugin developer @slaffik to give group admins an easy way to include more information about their groups. Essentially, the plugin gives admins the ability to create their own custom fields for inclusion on the group page. An extra page will appear to display the added content:
As you can see above, custom fields have been added to the page the admin sees when creating or editing group information. Adding new custom fields couldn’t be simpler:
One really cool built-in feature of this plugin is that you have the ability to allow custom fields for groups on a group-by-group basis. This is done through the plugin’s dashboard settings. Check all groups or select only a few for custom field privileges. You can be very specific in giving or restricting extra capabilities for groups.
Current Features of BuddyPress Group Extras:
- Choose groups you want to allow custom fields.
- Create custom fields using various type (radios, select, input, textarea etc)
- Edit fields data on Edit Group Details page in Group Admin area.
- Display / hide page, where fields (chosen by you) will be displayed.
- Reorder fields
This is a plugin that nearly every BuddyPress site could put to good use, since it appears to be quite seamless with the platform itself. The BuddyPress Group Extras plugin is available for free from the WordPress repository.
Because this plugin/widget is provided free of charge, I simply ask you to link back to Pressography.com in a post on your blog, or from one of your sites. It doesn't need to be anything fancy - just a note saying that you're using it, and whether or not you like it. However, there is no requirement that you do this, you're free to use the plugin regardless.
