10 New Plugins to Improve Your BuddyPress User Experience

BuddyPress is booming and new plugins for customizing the platform are hitting the WordPress repository every day. Many of the ones we’ve listed here are plugins that offer enhancements to the user interface as well as a few community management plugins.

BP User Profile Map

This plugin adds a Google map to display a member’s location on his profile. You can assign the dimensions of the map and define the area of the profile page where it will display.

RS BuddyPress Activity Refresh

This plugin automatically refreshes the Buddypress activity stream. It checks for new activities and comments and adds them to the activity stream via AJAX requests. You’ll be able to set your own refresh rate.

Ads Manager Plugin

This is a BuddyPress-specific ad management plugin. It lets you insert ads into your posts and BuddyPress sections, including forum topics. You can restrict who sees the ads based on WordPress user levels.

BuddyPress Verified

BuddyPress Verified allows admins to specify verified accounts, similar to what they see on Twitter. It adds a check mark icon to verified user profiles. This is helpful if you have high-profile members or if you want to modify the plugin to assign a specific status to users who you select.

BP My Home

BP My Home adds the ability to add moveable and collapsible widgets to a member’s home. Logged in users can see their Home and choose in their settings area the widgets they want to use. They can also set their Home to be the homepage of the website.

Register IP – Multisite

This plugin logs the IP address used at the time a user creates an account. It helps you to manage trolls and sock puppets in your community. Only admins and network admins can see the IP addresses.

This plugin disables the @mentions capability in BuddyPress. This can be helpful if your site’s demographic is made up of users who don’t understand and are not likely to learn how to communicate with @mentions.
