DLGuard WordPress Membership Bridge Plugin

December 4, 2008

Lets face it, WordPress membership site plugins aren’t incredibly available, nor are the available ones that great. I thought about setting up a full on WP membership plugin that would function like amember or the other “big boys” but then I had a stroke of genius!

I own a copy of a script called DLGuard, which allows me to digitally protect my products and membership sites quickly and easily, as well as sell products through one of any number of affiliate networks and payment processors, like ClickBank, Paypal, and more!

So, I decided to create a WordPress plugin that links DLGuard and WordPress together, seamlessly (well, you have to change the DLGuard membership template, but other than that, it’s seamless)

Current Version: 1.2 (Dec 7, 2008)

Download: Download DLG Membership Plugin Here (Via the WP Extend SVN)

WordPress Compatibility: Tested on 2.7

Installation Instructions:

  1. Upload
  2. Activate
  3. Go to Settings > DLGuard Membership Bridge
  4. If you didn’t install DLGuard into the /dlg directory under your root directory, add your DLGuard Install Path (if you’re not sure what that is, there are some examples immediately under the field)If you don’t enter the correct path, the plugin will tell you after you click Save :) – give it another try, or email your hosting company and ask what the physical path is to the directory where you installed DLGuard
  5. Then add any DLGuard Membership Groups to allow access to in the second field. Separate multiple groups by a comma
  6. Check the “Enable DLGuard On This Blog!” box, and click save

Since you’re logged in already as an administrator, the system won’t force you to log in through DLGuard. If you ever get logged out of WordPress, simply go to your wp-login.php where you installed your blog but add ?adminlogin=1 to the end of the url (http://www.example.com/wp-login.php?adminlogin=1 or http://www.example.com/blog/wp-login.php?adminlogin=1, for example) – That will allow you to log in as an admin,

After you’ve set it up correctly, fire up another browser, and try to access your blog. You should see the DLGuard login screen now. If you want to change this to match your blog, follow the steps inside DLGuard (basically, edit the templates/memberships/login_template.html file to fit your blog)

Known Bugs:
None

Because this plugin/widget is provided free of charge, I simply ask you to link back to Pressography.com in a post on your blog, or from one of your sites. It doesn't need to be anything fancy - just a note saying that you're using it, and whether or not you like it. However, there is no requirement that you do this, you're free to use the plugin regardless.

Ok I know what my directory is and where I added it tooooo, but its not working when I add the direct link to the plug in from the settings bage. So I cannot get it to work.
dlguard-membership-plugin – folder is in plugins, then i added it to the main directory… still getting whoops!

how to handle if the user wants to change their email or password.

I successfully created a change user information page outside of wordpress folder. and, it successfully updates info, but it is conflicting with the wordpress user [subscriber]. It give an error message that Whoops! there’s a problem with your login.

When I delete the user in wordpress admin, login works again. It adds the user back.

Is it that the user will just have to stick with their original email and password [ugly receipt number] or IS there a WAY to do THIS?

    thankyas.

Think I figured it out. As long as logout page is outside wordpress with this code at top:

It logs user out. Then I put link back to login page.

You have to also be logged out of wordpress admin to test/make it work.

Big thanks for this plugin. Huge hurdle cleared.

  7. j kennedy on October 8th, 2009 5:37 pm

Bridge is working perfect. Thank you.

    How would we handle logout?

    Is it even necessary?

    thanksyo, jKF

ok, I’m trying again to set up dlguard wp plugin on a new server but still getting the “whoops” error, I notice it’s only tested to 2.7, could this be a compatibility bug?

@Dwad – I am having the exact same issue. I am using the upgraded DLGuard 4.5 so it may be that this plugin is no longer compatible. – just a thought.

  13. Dwad on July 7th, 2009 7:01 pm

HELP! I keep getting that “Whoops! Can’t find DLGuard based on your settings. You need to update the path on this page!” error!

I installed it in WP, and it by default went to /public_html/mydomain.net/wp-content/plugins/dlguard-membership-plugin

I’ve tried all variations of the address, and even went and logged into my cPanel, went to “File Manager”, found the folder, copied the exact address, but STILL can’t get it to work!

Thing is, I’ve used an “Add-On” domain bridged off another domain i.e.

    maindomain.com/mydomain.net

I tried adding the main domain, but also didn’t work.

What should I do? Please help!

This plugin rocks and am looking forward to having even more options with it. thanks heaps for your hard work and giving it away for free. I will do a full reveiw of your work and plugins on my site very soon. Once again thanks.

  15. Grainger on June 20th, 2009 4:15 am

Hi, Thanks for making this great plugin freely available. I have installed and activated but the membership bridge page keeps giving me – “Whoops! Can’t find DLGuard based on your settings. You need to update the path on this page!” I have double checked my directories and tried 3 re – installs. I even got my hosting support to check it for me and they concurred that I have the correct directory path….. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks heaps…

Hi. I have an error in sign up: Whoops! For some reason, DLGuard didn’t redirect you to the login page. Please log in again.

approximately how long will it take to set up the new category-based protection plugin, just need to know?!?!?!

Where exactly do you installl the dlgaurd script, i understand we can install wp in a sup category and the pluggin is installed in the wp-content/pluggins folder but where is the dlgaurd script installed? thanks

  18. Peter on March 2nd, 2009 8:22 am

    Hello!

Does this script work correctly in WordPress MU?

Will it can modified and go on?

    Thanks!

  19. Pieman on February 28th, 2009 5:57 pm

@Jason – Thanks Jason, would your new plugin work with DLG?

  20. Jason on February 27th, 2009 11:09 am

@Pieman – I’m not planning on adding category protection at this time. I am, however, working on another full membership plugin that should launch in the coming months, that will provide extended functionality, post/category/content protection, and more :)

To solve your problem in the mean time, you could install your blog in a subdirectory, and have a sales page in the root folder – or even another blog in the root, actually.

That’s how I have mine set up – sales page in the root, then membership blog installed in a separate folder.

    @Jason

Any update on the category protection feature of the plugin? I want to buy DLG but don’t want to secure my entire website, particularly my sales page.

  22. David on February 1st, 2009 2:44 am

As Ash and Dan above I have installed WP Dlguard with correct path on my blog the the plugins file but i am still getting the RED box with error message after hitting the save button.

It would be nice to have clear installation instructions from a to Z on how to get the plugin to work.

Does one have to buy the Dlguard script for the WordPress Dlguard plugin to work??

Where can we find further help and clear instructions to install this plugin??

    Thanks for your help.

Ok, broke my blog. Here’s what I get
Whoops! There’s an error with the membership interface. Please try again later
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/gsale/public_html/wp-content/plugins/dlguard-membership-plugin/dlgmembership.php:126) in /home/gsale/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 850
    Can anyone help?

  24. Ash on January 20th, 2009 11:29 am

    Thank you Jason..For your response.

I got it now…This WordPress plug-in will only work if you have the Dlguard script and not otherwise.

Sorry my fault did not read the description well enough.

Thank you for clearing this up.

    All the best

    Ash

  25. Jason on January 20th, 2009 12:03 am

    @Ash – home/digital/public_html/membershipvault/wp-content/plugins/dlguard/ is the Plugin’s path. That’s not the DLGuard path. They’re different.

Where did you install DLGuard (the script) at? It probably looks like this: /home/digital/public_html/dlg

Don’t have DLGuard? Get it here

  26. Ash on January 19th, 2009 7:54 pm

    Hello

Thank you for your generosity to providing and sharing Dlg plugin for WordPress.

I have a slight problem and i need your assistance please.

I have installed the plugin into the “wp-content/plugins” and using the correct path in the field where it says “DLGuard Install Path:” using this field which is correct home/digital/public_html/membershipvault/wp-content/plugins/dlguard/

But i am still getting the RED box with error message after hitting the save button.
    ——————————————————————————
“(The install path is the full path to where you installed DLGuard (not the URL you see in your browser, but the physical path on the server) it’s probably something like /home/digital/public_html/dlg or /home/digital/public_html/FolderNameYouInstalledDLGin)”
    ——————————————————————————————-

But on the top it says “Success! Your changes were sucessfully saved!” and yet nothing else is on this page which will allow me to setup the membership.

    Your comments are appreciated.

    Regards

    Ash

@Scott – You don’t need a completely separate WP installation, just install WP in a subdirectory, and upload your sales page .htm file to the root

I will, however, put a category-based protection scheme into the future changes log

So basically you need a completely separate WordPress installation for the sales pages, since its an all or nothing protection.

It would be nice if you could get it to work with Categories. That would be nice. Something like:

    If category 1 then
    execute protection code
    else
    let them in.

Hi Sounds like a great plug in.

Just before I install it can you tell me if its only members who can view blog pages/posts .. or are excerpts visible to all ?

amd do the “members area” posts still get pinged ?

    Cheers

At this point, it protects the entire wordpress instance. I’m looking into different ways to protect only certain categories, however

Hey thanks a bunch for this plugin. I have DLGuard but was on the verge of going with a different membership product which would have been unfortunate because all I wanted was a decent wordpress membership site anyhow. Like you said though, the existing tools for doing this suck and believe me I’ve wasted a lot of time trying them. I’m going to give this a whirl.

    thanks,
